Located in the heart of down town, in the Pendleton Art Center at 201 Main Street, the Rising Sun Arts Academy offers access to Arts education that is limited or otherwise unavailable to the local communities. Our goal is to augment the existing activities and offer students studio classes taught by professional artists.

OUR MISSION

· To offer diverse, and high quality programming which augments current Arts education, and raise awareness of the Arts as part of a complete education.

· To offer affordable Arts education and access to the local community and encourage interaction and participation in cultural activities by all citizens.

· To inspire local youth to appreciate the arts and explore their own creativity.

These goals are met through ongoing programming, involvement with local schools and organizations to assess community need, and by offering Arts education to as many local students as possible.

The Rising Sun arts Academy offers affordable visual arts classes to student ages 5-12, focusing on individual attention. Most classes are limited to 15 students, and offer high quality art materials which contribute to successful student work. Sessions range in duration from one and one half hours to two hours, allowing for the creation of more complex projects. Students are encouraged to explore, design, create from their imaginations and learn to work in a variety of disciplines.

Summer programs and special camps are held over a period of two to four days, and offer intensives in painting, sculpture, ceramics, masks, and puppet making taught by professional artists.

The recently established Piano Studio located in Studio 2C-D offers group piano lessons to students ages 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10 with an emphasis on fundamental music theory and keyboard geography. The Studio is equipped with four full sized electronic key boards to accommodate group lessons.

We currently have nine students enrolled for our first 12 week session. The maximum enrollment is 12 students, at a cost of $90.00 per student which includes the required textbook. We plan to offer these classes in 10 and 12 week session throughout the year with a recital as each class advances.

The Rising Sun Arts Academy is unique in its rural location, availability of professional talent, and offers educational opportunities to local communities at an affordable cost. Our goal is to stimulate, educate and enhance the quality of life in local rural communities, through access to the Arts for all citizens.
